Hands-on instruction with real-world application.
The Class A Motorcycle and Tuk Tuk Driving Training course provides comprehensive instruction for operating two-wheeled motorcycles and three-wheeled tuk tuks, covering the full range of vehicles in Kenya's Class A licensing category. This hands-on program prepares students for the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) licensing examinations and equips them with the defensive riding skills essential for safe operation in diverse traffic conditions. The training encompasses three distinct sub-categories within Class A. Category A1 covers mopeds up to 50cc with a minimum age requirement of 16 years, primarily for private use without passengers. Category A2 addresses light motorcycles above 50cc, typically up to 400cc, suitable for personal transportation and passenger carriage, requiring students to be at least 18 years old. Category A3 covers motorcycles above 100cc and three-wheelers (tuk tuks), designed for commercial operations including taxi services and courier work, with a minimum age of 21 years and one year of riding experience in Category A2. The curriculum combines theoretical classroom instruction with extensive practical on-road training. Students learn motorcycle and tuk tuk parts, controls, and basic maintenance, defensive riding techniques, traffic rules and regulations, passenger and load safety protocols, and practical riding in various road conditions. The program includes rigorous safety training, with many institutions offering defensive riding courses as part of their comprehensive curriculum. Fee structures vary across driving schools, with motorcycle courses ranging from Ksh 5,000 to Ksh 8,000 for full courses, while tuk tuk training typically costs around Ksh 8,500 to Ksh 9,500. Additional NTSA fees for licensing and testing apply, and graduates receive certification enabling them to apply for the appropriate Class A driving license for commercial or private riding.
